Oil Change Frequency

There have been a lot of hubbub talks about oiling the engine, oil change frequency, oil change coupons and so on. So what does all this mean? For the smooth, frictionless functioning of your automobile you need to oil your engine. Oiling the engine absorbs the heat that is emanated from the engine and also it lubricates the engine surface there by reducing friction and ensuring the seamless running of the automobile. This oil which we use in the engine needs to be changed at regular frequencies. The reason being, while the vehicle is in the move the oil gets contaminated with soot, metal particles, gasoline and other impurities. The soot which burns gets settled on the oil and this dilutes the oil. It forms sludge in the engine compartment.

For a long time, the accepted oil change frequency was 3000 miles or 3 months, the earlier of the two. The reason being the longer the oil stays in the engine compartment it reduces the lifetime of the engine because of the high contamination.ร‚ย  In recent days the in the modern day engines the oil change frequency is about 7500 miles , 9000 miles or even up to 10000 miles or an year. One important factor that determines the oil change frequency is that of the lifetime of engine or the number of miles the engine has run for. The newer the engine and the lesser the miles it has been run for the frequency with which one needs to change the engine oil can be delayed. But on the other hand the older the engine and the number of miles it has run for is higher then, the oil change frequency also is higher and should be done properly to ensure the longevity of the engine.

In the modern day even though the manufacturers claim that we can change the engine oil after 6 to 7 months or after 7500 miles of driving, they do have some restrictions. If the automobile is used for very frequent short distance journeys, or if the vehicle is going to driven continuously in high traffic, extreme weather conditions, or if the vehicle will be idle for a too long a time period, or if the drive is going to be mountainous terrains, or dusty regions then the oil change frequency should still be 3000 miles or 3 months.

Now days we also have two options of oil. One is the conventional natural oil, which is extracted as a byproduct from the crude oil and the other is the synthetic oil which is artificially manufactured with some pollution free chemical combination. So the claim is that when the synthetic oil is used for the engine lubrication, the lifespan of the engine is greatly increased when compared to the conventional oil. At the same time the oil change frequency for the synthetic oil is less frequent when compared to that of the conventional oil. Synthetic oil oxidizes at a lesser rate when compared to its natural counterpart, and so it is less prone to becoming impure by the settling of soot, metal or dust particles etc.

This oil changing is quite expensive. So many people tend to change only the filter, thinking that is going to solve their problems at a cheaper rate. But that is not the case; changing filter along with oil will only help because given that the metal particles and soot get settled on the oil, they contaminate the oil itself. So the oil gets wear out, broken and diluted.

As another alternative to your economic problems associated with oil change, most of the automotive service companies offer discount coupons, in the form of printable coupons on some grocery purchase or textile purchase etc. They also offer online coupon codes for free service and discounted oil change. You can easily save from 10% to 50% by using these coupons and also follow the standard oil change frequency time period of 3 months or 3000 miles to be on the safer side.
